Guan Yee + Hwei Cwin
Knowing them both since university days, I would say they are a very unique couple. How so? They have nothing in common and because of this, they both find things to do together to have things in common. They would exercise together, cook really healthy food together, serving in church, together. Through their love for each other, I really admire the effort they put in their relationship, and ending it with a new chapter by walking down the aisle.
On the early morning of the wedding day, I walked through the bride's room to see her getting ready, playing songs from her spotify list, feeling relax while the makeup artist does her magic. It is the day she has waited that it seems like her whole life. Remembering what she told me when we all started working after graduation, they wanted to get married straight away but we all live in a reality where having finances are not as easy as it seems. Her eyes sparkle with joy as the day was about to start.
While waiting for the bride and groom to arrive at the venue, little touch ups were made on the decorations and it was a pleasant morning indeed. Birds chirping, leaves rustling, butterflies surround the flowers at the ceremony. We were all worried the day before as weather wasn't seem to be on our side but as the sun rises, I knew it was going to be a fabulous day.
As people were filing in the half moon seating arrangement, all smiles and laughter filled the garden. With familiar faces and shouting greetings across, and long lost hugs embraces one another, warms my heart to see such a heartwarming crowd.
My favourite part of the wedding was when the groom stood at the front waiting for his bride to walk down the aisle, towards him. You can see how happy he is waiting for her. The joy is written on his face as the bride's proud parents walked their daughter down the aisle. When the parents gave their daughter's hand to the groom, you could see how well their relationship with their daughter is when tears stream down her face.
During the buffet lunch right after the ceremony, everyone had a great laugh and even tears of emotion from the speech of best man, sisters and father of the bride. Memories with the couple that they shared out with the guest were all personal and yet everyone could feel it too. It is different when all the guest paid full attention to the ones who gave the speech and everyone laugh at jokes in between.
No matter how western we can organize our ceremony and reception, chinese tea session will still carry on in our wedding traditions. Aunts and uncles all stayed back after the reception and every relative get to refresh their mind about the sequence of who should go first during the tea session. Laughters filled the kampung house as ang pows were given out the the couple.
As everything came to an end, family is everything that I've learned and seen through the wedding of this couple. No matter how tough the journey of anything, your parents will always be there to guide you through as how the parents of the bride guide her down the aisle. It is indeed a wonderful garden wedding to witness the joining of Guan Yee and Hwei Cwin.
